I really appreciate the time you took to tell me about your trip. And now we're here with Roy from Forrest Family Fun, and I'm gonna tout him as an MSC Yacht Club expert. And I cannot wait to hear all about his experience on World America in Yacht Club. But Roy, please tell the audience anything else you would like them to know about you.
Good morning. My name is Roy. I'm with Forrest Family Fun. We started YouTube about two years ago to go through our experiences in Yacht Club. Um, it's my wife and [00:01:00] I . We travel with our 14-year-old daughter, and we have an older daughter who's 29. She's come on a couple trips with us, too.
So We like cruising, especially in Yacht Club.
Yes. And we love hearing about it. So give me an overview, because you've done so much MSC cruising, just give me an overview. I was saying earlier that I don't really understand sort of the different classes and the order of the classes. So if you could kinda give us like an MSC 101 and include the differences in Yacht Club, because some of the older ships have Yacht Club that have been retrofitted in, and some- Right
of the newer ones have Yacht Club that were purposely built within the ship design. So can you just take me through that?
what we've sailed on the Divina, which I believe is Meraviglia Plus class, which is an older ship. I think it was 2014, 2015 it came out. There's a big difference between, [00:02:00] you have that, then the C class , C class plus, and then the World Class, You can kind of see on the Divina it's a little older.
It's not as big. I think it holds, like the capacity's 200 people. It's nice though.
just one quick question. On the Divina, Yacht Club holds 200 people?
Yes. Yeah, I think it's like- Okay ... 200 or 250 people. Um- Okay ... but you can kind of see the difference.
the restaurant is broken up. That's in the back of the ship. So even though they did it as a yacht club, they're still kind of an afterthought. The C class, which is, I believe the Seaside and Seashore, is similar to the Seascape. They're the larger ships, um, larger capacity, kind of purpose-built yacht club.
Everything's kind of contained within the yacht club. So that's kind of once we did I believe the Seascape the first time it was no going back. You really don't have to leave the yacht club at all, which is amazing. Then going into [00:03:00] the World Class, which are the newer ships I love them.
I know there's been some back and forth with people, especially yacht club people like ourselves, that they didn't like the setup. It's a little different. It's definitely bigger. I think it holds a little over 400 people. But I, I love the World Class. It's set up Where you have the restaurant, the pool deck and pool bar are actually separate, which is a little different than the C Class where they kind of had the pool and the bar, but it's all right there.
It's a large pool, big area. The way it's set up now with the World Class, it's on two separate levels and I've heard everybody complain that the pool is too small and I don't ... it's a lot nicer experience I personally think.
I can't wait to hear the details. And it sounds like the C Class was the first class that really had that ship within a ship concept.
The Divina, there were a couple [00:04:00] of yacht club specific areas, but they weren't all together as opposed to on C Class now they really are trying to bring everything together.
Yes. Yeah, absolutely. It's very contained. You have the whole area and the nice thing is you have, usually it's top of the ship, it's the yacht club, and then Aria is right below, like the Aria public decks.
So you actually have access to that too, which is usually another bar, a couple hot tubs. They don't have the pools. I think they were looking at that on a newer class, but just a nice area where you don't have to deal with everything else going on the ship.
Yeah. Good to know. Awesome. let's move to this particular sailing.
What made you decide to go on, this trip on World America, this itinerary, this ship? Tell us what went into that decision-making.
We were actually on the [00:05:00] Seascape, I guess two years ago and we were on the Seascape in Yacht Club three times in about four months. It was great deals they had.
And we got to really know that crew, and a lot of that crew was going over to the World America. So we started looking at that and decided, hey let's give it a try. And just kind of reading. I consumed everything I possibly could about the ship, about everything new going onto it. So we decided.
We went last year, last June, so It was within, like, about six or seven weeks after they first sailed, and we walked on the ship, and it was everybody we knew. So as soon as we walked on, we were getting hugs and, "Oh my gosh, you're back." So I mean, that kind of led us to do it two more times in the past year.
So I just want touch on a couple of things, and the first is I love that feeling too where you walk onto a ship and either the ship is familiar, the people are familiar.
it's such a [00:06:00] nice- Mm-hmm ... feeling that you can't quite put words to, but it almost feels like you're coming home,
Yeah ...
to a familiar, it reminds me of the people who do timeshares in the same place. People who like that, that like to vacation. Mm-hmm.
They have a timeshare, the same week, the same location year after year. This is really similar I think, to that feeling. And then the second thing was you mentioned the pricing. They had good deals. MSC is really, because they are trying so hard to break into the North American market, they have some really competitive pricing, even when it gets to Yacht Club.
Do you think that is still the case, or has that kind of gone down and they're getting closer to the pricing around, like, The Haven or Star Class on Royal?
It's definitely getting closer. I think right after COVID we got a Yacht Club, like, a five-night for the three of us for, like, $1,200. [00:07:00] So that was like, wow, this kind of opened it up to us.
It's not as much as The Haven, but it's comparable now to The Retreat on Celebrity. We've been looking at some of them, it's right about there, and it depends on the sailings. And we look for a lot of off-season sailings too, so that, that allows us to go a lot more.
It's getting up there though. It's tripled in price since we started regularly going on there.
Yeah. I bet. So when you walk onto World America, tell us about the ship. What is the layout and the decor of the ship?
It's similar if anybody's been on any of the, I guess the Icon class of Royal Caribbean, very similar to that.
Huge ship. They have it broken up into different neighborhoods. Like there's a children's area I think it's the World Promenade, which is kind of a indoor/outdoor space where there's shops, bars, restaurants. It's actually out of most of the ships we've [00:08:00] been on, the layout super intuitive.
It's very easy. As large of a ship as it is, very easy to get back and forth get to really anywhere on the ship within a couple minutes. They have an area in the center where it's all their specialty restaurants. They, a lot more shops. lot of larger areas.
And I know, MSC is famous for their Swarovski crystal staircase.
is that where that is, sort of in that main promenade?
In the World Class, they only have that staircase in the Yacht Club now. On the seaside are the Sea Class ships and the Meraviglia ships, it is in the center. But yeah, now the only ones they have is the stairs going from the Topsail Lounge, which is, like, the Yacht Club lounge, up to the Yacht Club restaurant.
Interesting. Wow. They really reserved it to- um, just the suite class level. So if you wanna see the Swarovski crystal staircase, if you want those pictures, you're gonna have to be- Yep ... [00:09:00] in Yacht Club. Wow. So bring us into Yacht Club and tell us, what's the decor like? What's that feeling like when you step into Yacht Club?
It's kind of a muted decor. I wouldn't really say luxury, but just muted, very nice lots of kind of higher end touches. And the biggest difference than any other ship we've been on or any other class that we've been on is the quiet. I mean, it's absolutely quiet. Light music going on in the lounges.
Sometimes they'll have performers, but just peaceful. That's the best way to describe it.
Yeah. I think that's really a good point because, people talk about those large promenades that are really coming out as when you get on a ship, you feel like you're in a mall. And I don't know, I haven't been in a mall in a long time, at least an indoor mall.
Yeah. And I don't feel [00:10:00] like there's ... the structure of it is kind of like a mall, but I don't know that most malls have loud music piped through them. And when you're on a cruise and you're in that and you feel like you're in the party, like in a party mood, like walking through and there's tons of people and there, there is a lot of noise and there's music going and
Sometimes there's music being piped in and a DJ, and sometimes there's music in the lounges- Mm-hmm ... coming through, bleeding in and, yeah. And there's tons of people that are just talking and having a great time. and if that's what you're in the mood for, then great. But sometimes you do want some quiet.
And so I love that in the Yacht Club you have sort of your own private retreat where it's just quiet. Is there music, like soft music,
Yeah ...
yeah, kind of like a soft EDM type music. But just very low and the same kind of in the lounges.
And the nice thing is being on top and forward is that the [00:11:00] music from the main pool deck, the lido deck, doesn't really bleed in either. So it really is kind of a cocoon.
Nice. I love it. What kinds of staterooms do you usually book within Yacht Club?
balconies usually.
We've bid a couple times on the presidential suites, the duplex suites, um, which look amazing. But the regular balcony suites- I'd say they're probably 30 to 40% larger than a typical balcony. it's a lot wider lot kind of higher end touches, and it's a lot nicer than even the step below Yacht Club, which is Aria, is still kind of the regular standard size cabin.
we are on the Meraviglia next February and March, and we're doing a nine-night in an inside Yacht Club cabin, which I'm not sure yet. We've only done an inside cabin once on an old Norwegian ship, so I'm a little scared, but we were [00:12:00] able to do that one, so that's what we decided.
Yeah. and that brings a really good point, and that is that Yacht Club has a variety of different staterooms from inside all the way to a, two-deck huge presidential-type suite, you know, probably five, six, maybe 1,000 square foot suite. And so you can enjoy that sort of ship within a ship and that quiet and the amenities without having to do a giant suite- Right
which is certainly different than Royal Caribbean. I'm not sure about the Haven or I'm blanking. I think on Carnival's newest ships, their Harbor View or Harborside suites, and so I'm not sure that's the same on Norwegian or Carnival. So it really is a nice opportunity for people with a variety of budgets to still- Mm-hmm
[00:13:00] enjoy the Yacht Club amenities.
And that's the great thing too, it's very reasonably priced compared to some of the other lines. And what we've actually found, and it might just be us justifying ourselves for going on multiple Yacht Club cruises a year but once you put in a drink package excursions, just the extras, the Wi-Fi, you're kind of looking at around the same price if you would've just booked a regular balcony cabin.
And especially if you're looking, we've compared prices to a royal balcony, just a standard balcony compared to the Yacht Club, and there's really no comparison. The Yacht Club, for your money, it's not even close.
if you were to just get inside stateroom, but in the yacht club, what else is included other than obviously your meals and your room?
Uh, you have 24-hour butler service, which [00:14:00] is truly 24 hours, and we've had some amazing butlers where they will get you food in the middle of the night. If you want a rib eye steak at 3:00 o'clock in the morning they will get that for you. If you want a bottle of Jack Daniel's at 3:00 o'clock in the morning, they'll get that for you.
Besides that, you have the Yacht Club exclusive areas, so the pool deck the Yacht Club bar, there's usually two to three bars. The Yacht Club dining, which the Yacht Club restaurant, um, and the butler will take you anywhere on or off the ship that you need to go to, which is one of the best things.
We try not to use it too much. We know they're busy and kind of running around. I think they have between, like, seven and rooms each. So they will walk you to dinner. Uh, the other really nice thing is specialty dining and any shows where if you look on the app a lot of times beforehand, it's sold out before you're on the [00:15:00] ship for a lot of that stuff, especially Butcher's Cut, the steakhouse.
But they are able to get you in anytime you want. So We went to a comedy show on the last trip, no seats available, and they actually brought us seats, walked us past the line sat us down. they were little stools, but they were able to do that. So it's kind of those extra touches that really make a difference.
I love that. What about Wi-Fi, drinks? Did you mention that-
Yes ... are they
included?
You get the best drink package. that is unlimited in the Yacht Club, and I think it's limited to 15 drinks, what we call gen pop.
So you don't have to show your cruise card or wristband for any of that. It's just if you want something they bring it to you. Wi-Fi, you get the basic Wi-Fi for two devices per person in the cabin, so it's really not a bad deal. And then to upgrade, I think, to the streaming package [00:16:00] it's like $30 for a seven-night cruise, something like that.
So That alone, I've looked at some other cruises where you're looking two to $400 sometimes for the Wi-Fi. So
Yeah ...
that's a huge advantage.
yeah, that's fantastic. Wow, that is a lot included. And like you said and like we talked about earlier, on a variety of different stateroom classes.
I love it. I love it. What's your take on the food? And I don't know if you've left Yacht Club and eaten sort of in the main part of the ship, or if you stay within Yacht Club, but tell us about the food.
MSC food gets a lot of hate. We've been on multiple lines and I think in the main dining room it's comparable to any other line.
Comparable to a Royal, an NCL. I would say some items they do better, some items not so good. And especially the last four or five years, they've really [00:17:00] kind of stepped it up. When we first went on MSC, it was very Mediterranean, European taste, which we're fine with, but you could see people were confused looking at the menu sometimes.
Um, the specialty restaurants are great. They're reasonably priced. We have diamond status with them, almost a blue diamond. So with that we get a free specialty dining for every cruise we go on. Steakhouse is probably the best we've had at sea. They have on the new concept on the World America is Eataly, which I guess they have about 30 different locations across the US, and that was okay. We've been there twice. I don't necessarily know if we'd go back. the food is very good, but it's just not up to what we thought it would be. The dining in Yacht Club is awesome.
You can eat breakfast, lunch and dinner. On World America, breakfast and [00:18:00] lunch you can have at the pool deck. it's set up a little differently than the C class where it was a buffet style. Where now on World America, I think World Europa and World Asia, it's kind of sit down. It is quick service, but you sit down, order your food, move on.
Yacht Club restaurant I think is great. It's the menu, which is different than what we found with Haven, it changes every single day. So your breakfast is always the same, but your lunch and dinner, different every single night. There's tons of options. You have everything from gluten-free, vegetarian, vegan and then they have kind of your chicken filet that you can order every single night.
But on the World America, they have the new concept in one of the buffets. They have two buffets on that ship And it's called Le Brasserie, which is the second smaller buffet. In the evenings, that turns [00:19:00] into yacht club exclusive, kind of a tapas restaurant. Which is one of the best meals. every time we've been on World America, we try to hit it three or four times.
It's one of the best meals I've had at sea, and it's just everything. It's kind of a mishmash of everything from Asian, Indian, Italian. Anything, any taste that you would have , it's gonna be on that menu. Which I can't talk about that place enough. I think about it all the time.
It sounds fantastic.
I love the type of place where it's the best meal of your life every time you go.
Mm-hmm. I love that. it's amazing.
You've sold me. Like, I'm sitting here thinking, like, "How can I get on World America Yacht Club?" Like, It sounds absolutely fantastic. Question about excursions.
So tell us, where did you go on this? what was your itinerary? Where did you go, and Did any [00:20:00] part of the excursions at the ports change because you were in yacht club?
this last cruise we went to Puerto Plata, uh, San Juan, and then there were, three or four sea days and then Ocean Cay.
We didn't do any excursions on this last trip, but we've been to San Juan and Puerto Plata a bunch of times before, so we kinda just get off, do our own thing. There are yacht club exclusive excursions, so they're kind of a smaller group. We tend to stick away from the cruise line excursions where we've looked at, like, shore excursion groups and different things like that.
you find it's almost a better experience at half the price. But again, like, in San Juan, we like just getting off the ship, walking around for a couple hours and doing our thing. [00:21:00] And same in Puerto Plata. They have a huge port area where they have pools, restaurants, a big lazy river. So we just get off for a couple hours and honestly come back to the yacht club or the rest of the ship.
That's a lot of times when we spend a lot more time on the ship, especially if it's somewhere like Nassau or San Juan when everybody's getting off. You have the whole ship to yourself, which is pretty nice.
That is a great yacht club tip because you know, one of the drawbacks we'll say of being in whatever line you're on where you have a ship-within-a-ship concept, if you stay there, you don't get to experience all the rest of the ship.
especially these big ships, like a sea class, they have a lot to offer. And so if you are a regular cruiser and you go to, like, one of these ports you've been to several times, whether it's Nassau or, you know, San Juan [00:22:00] or St. Maarten, that is a really good time to just- Yeah
explore the rest of the ship when it is quieter, when there are fewer people. I think that's a really great tip. Awesome.
No lines at all. Yeah. The slides you can get on, any of the other activities, it's you're just walking on compared to waiting in line for 30, 40 minutes sometimes.
Yeah. especially some of those slides with a hot deck.
Yep.
Anything else about World America or MSC Yacht Club that we haven't covered yet that you wanna share?
I don't think so. We kinda covered just about everything.
like I had mentioned before, every ship is a little bit different. So that's what we kind of find interesting is, granted we love seeing the same people, but seeing those little tiny differences. One of the big things I know a lot of people complained about, and our daughter hasn't been on World America with us yet, but she [00:23:00] loved in the Yacht Club lounge, they have snacks out all day.
I think it's for like 20 hours a day. They'll have breakfast items, lunch items, tea time items, nighttime snacks, and then they do, like, chocolates later at night. And I heard a lot of people that have been on, and even on the last couple times we've been on World America, "Oh, I want the snacks back."
So that is a difference. It doesn't really matter to me. ... You can actually order them, they're just kinda not put out. But I know a lot ... we heard it probably 10 times on the last trip, "Oh, they don't have the snacks." It's a little weird, but hey, you can order them and you get snacks in your room twice a day.
So they bring chocolates and fruit and water. If every time you're in Yacht Club, they give you a bottle of alcohol too, so you can kind of pick if you want vodka or gin, and they give you kind of a full bottle, which is interesting. I haven't seen that anywhere else, and I [00:24:00] know and uh, your mini bar is included also, which is definitely pretty cool.
So they'll stock it with anything you want, any sodas, beer, waters. Basically anything they have on the ship you can get it stocked, and they stock that twice a day too.
Yes. Awesome. I mean, amazing how you're on a cruise ship, you could basically eat 24 hours a day, and yet somehow- Mm-hmm
when food isn't readily available, some people are always gonna be a little bit upset, but That's the beautiful thing about cruising. If you don't see it, just ask for it and- You just ask ... somebody will probably be willing to give it to you. Awesome.
we order pizza in the middle of the night too.
Yeah ...
we're older now, so the middle of the night to us is 10:30, 11:00. Yeah. But you can order pizza, I think, till 3:00 AM. And- Yeah ... almost every night, and the pizza is so good.
Yeah ...
some of the best- Yeah, I bet ... pizza I've had on land or not,
an Italian cruise line, like the pizza- Yeah
better be great.
It's [00:25:00] amazing.
Awesome. Well, let's take a step back from this particular ship and this particular cruise, and I wanna ask you a couple questions I ask everyone. And the first question is: how do you define luxury?
Phew. guess anything you're not getting on a daily basis.
It's kind of those personal touches, that knowing your likes, knowing your dislikes, knowing your name is huge. That, that took us forever to kind of get around our heads till we actually realized they do have all of your information on their little devices. But it does, it makes that difference, the extra little touches.
We had a, butler that we've had twice now on World America that we saw on Seascape or Seashore before, and we went out to dinner one night. He walked us to dinner. I'd actually left my phone in the cabin, so I had to run back. And when I was there, he was acting real strange with me, and he says, [00:26:00] "Oh, Mr.
Roy, what can I help you with?" And they were kind of blocking me going into the room, and I thought, "That's really odd." So I grabbed my phone, went back to the restaurant. I'm telling my wife, I said, "It was just really bizarre. I don't know what they were doing. It kind of made me a little uncomfortable."
We get back to the room after dinner, and he had set up rose petals all over the bed, had kind of laser lights. All the lights were off. there were hearts everywhere. I mean, it was amazing that, My wife was crying, thanking him. And it, little things like that. I mean, that's something I've never experienced on any ship, on anywhere we've ever been to.
that level of personalization is amazing.
That does sound amazing, yeah. I can see how you'd be like, "What's happening?" And then- Yeah ... have that surprise, like- It
freaked me out a little bit, and I'm thinking- Yeah ... like, what are they doing? Are they going through our stuff or is it..."
Yeah.
And yeah, to come back and find that, [00:27:00] and it was awesome.
That's awesome. So did this experience, and do your experience in Yacht Club in general meet that definition of luxury for you?
Absolutely, yeah. It might not be luxury for everyone, 'cause it is kind of a little laid back. we're actually looking at a couple Explora, the Explora Journeys, and I think that's another step up, same as like a Ritz Carlton Four Seasons, something like...
it's not at that level, but it's up there. you really don't have to think about anything. You get on the ship, and you don't have to think for seven days. It's everything's- Yeah ... taken care of.
Yeah. Awesome. Let me ask you just one thing, because you mentioned Explora Journeys, and you mentioned that you are almost at Blue Diamond.
So- In terms of status matching, what does Diamond get you and what would Blue Diamond get you, if anything, when you move to Explore Journey? Since it [00:28:00] is the luxury line within MSC, MSC line, I can't remember what the parent company is called.
basically it gets you a lot of the stuff you get in Yacht Club.
So it's priority boarding, priority tendering, disembarkation. You get the priority seating for shows and the same, you get the free specialty dining. So we haven't really been able to take advantage of the Diamond. I think the Blue Diamond, you get a ship model and a, a ship tour with the captain, a private meet and greet with the captain, which you also get with Yacht Club too.
So we haven't taken advantage of much of it except for the specialty dining.
And do you know if when you book on Explore Journeys, does that status give you anything on Explore Journeys?
it is, the status does go over to Explore. But again, I think That ship is basically kind of like the [00:29:00] entire ship is Yacht Club, so I don't know what extra you really get with that.
And I think with Explore, everything's included. So- Yeah ... all the dining, doesn't really help that much.
It's similar to, um, Silversea and Royal Caribbean Group. It's like even at the highest tier you'll get, maybe 5 or 10% off your cruise fare and like an extra free laundry or, you know, something like that.
Yeah.
But when you're at that level, there's not much more to give. Yeah. So I was just wondering. Well,
they do the same I think too. It's five, 5% off. The nice thing that we were able to do to bump up our points think we were silver with NCL, so we used that.
But if you book when you're on the ship, on MSC, you get double the Voyager points and you get the best price. that's where people sometimes when I show them the price that we paid for things, "I don't believe you. I don't believe you at all." [00:30:00] "Hey, it's right here." Yeah. And again, I research it so once we go to the next cruise desk, I have everything that we wanna look at and kind of see what their prices are.
But yeah, I think it's 5% off. sometimes of the year you'll get 10% off for certain cruises. It's not that great of a deal.
Yeah. Do you have a dream cruise?
Probably two. It would be Asia , and I'd love to do kind of Northern Europe, Iceland, Greenland. That's kind of our bucket list. We're planning on hopefully in two years not next summer, the summer after, to do Alaska. But yeah, definitely Greenland, Iceland, and I'd love to do all over Asia.
Yeah. That sounds amazing. Well, tell us what's up next for you? I'm sure another yacht club experience, but what's on the books right now?
35 days we have the Seaside [00:31:00] Yacht Club. that's just a short four-nighter. We have Meraviglia next February and March.
we leave the day after my birthday, we get back the day of my wife's birthday, so it's our birthday cruise. And then we have World Europa next May. So that one we're having bunch of family, extended family, and, uh, I think about 15, maybe even 20 of us that are traveling over there, leaving out of Marseille and doing a seven-night Western Med.

YouTube we're trying to start to build up a [00:32:00] little bit and do a little more content, but we're not quite there yet. If this next cruise is gonna kinda be our thing, to do the ship tours and do stuff a little bit differently ... I watch all cruise content all the time, and it's all kind of be a little the same.
So we're trying out some ideas to do, do things a little bit differently, make it a little more fun, exciting.
